Makar Sankranti, a festival celebrated with great enthusiasm across India, marks the transition of the sun into the zodiac sign of Capricorn. This auspicious occasion is known for its traditional foods, especially those made with sesame seeds (til). Consuming til during Sankranti is believed to bring warmth and energy, essential for the winter season. Til Gud Ladoo is a must-have during this time, however, to elevate your celebration, we have brought to you some unique til-based recipes to celebrate Makar Sankranti with a twist.

Starters:

For snacks or as starters, you can try making Sweet Potato Tikkis. These are usually made with potatoes, however this time make the healthier version using sweet potatoes and sesame seeds or Til. These tikkis are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, with the nutty flavor of sesame seeds adding an extra layer of taste. Serve them with mint chutney for a delightful treat perfect for the season.

Mains:

For mains, start off with Stuffed Bell Peppers, this time made using a filling of sesame seeds, peanuts, and spices. Similar to the Tilli Phalli Shimla Mirch - which is a delightful combination of sesame seeds, peanuts, and bell peppers - Til Stuffed Bell Peppers tastes amazing. This dish is not only nutritious but also visually appealing, making it a great addition to your Sankranti feast.

Then try the classic Mixed Vegetable Sabzi, this time made with sesame seeds for added texture and flavor. This dish is perfect for a festive meal and pairs well with roti or rice. Alternatively, you can try making the Imli-Til-Aloo, a tangy and flavorful dish that combines the goodness of sesame seeds with the tanginess of tamarind and the earthiness of potatoes.

Dessert:

Finally, end the meal on a sweet note with either the simple Til Gud Ladoo or try making ice cream using Til- Tahini and Cardamom Ice Cream. Til Gud Ladoo is a quintessential Makar Sankranti sweet, so you must not miss this. Sesame seeds are rich in calcium, iron, and healthy fats, while jaggery provides natural sweetness and essential minerals making Til Gud Ladoo a delicious and nutrient rich must-have.

As Makar Sankranti approaches, it's important to incorporate til into your diet to stay warm and energized. These unique recipes offer a modern twist on traditional dishes, making your festive celebrations even more special. Enjoy these til-based delights and celebrate Sankranti with joy and good health! 🎉🍽️
