Summer Drinks : Simple and Easily Doable

Now, haven’t we heard health and fitness freaks harping on having natural foods and drinks. There's definitely a lot of truth behind it. One, it is made from healthy ingredients and second, you can adjust the sugar or any other ingredient as per choice or simply skip it. Besides, why pay so much for an expensive drink that you can easily make at home. Add some fancy garnish accessory from the many options available to decorate your glassware, and along with it some light snacks, depending on what you are serving.

It will be fun and creative, especially when the summers are here. Some of the beverages/desserts no one says NO to are:

Lassi

Lassi, this thick, luscious drink made of yogurt is a staple in Northern India, served at meals, post-meal or just had like that. Coupled with my all-time favourite rose flavour, rose syrup or, gulkand (rose petal compote) even better. That slight bite of the rose preserve adds a real traditional flavour to the drink. That thick moustache after finishing the lassi was the best part.

Falooda

They say Falooda came from Persia. I am just so glad it reached India, how else would we have had our late night strolls and stopped at our favourite Falooda joint? Chocolate, Rose, Strawberry, Kesar-Pista and so many more flavours, but traditional is traditional. After Rose Falooda, if there is another flavour that I have then it's the summer season’s best gift, the Mango Falooda. Falooda without rose syrup is unimaginable. The original taste and this fruity-flowery medley, in a flavoured milk is simply delicious!

Nimbu Paani

Wasn’t the simple Nimbu Paani among the first things you tried making in the kitchen? Because our mothers said, “No, going near gas”! Right? Give your simple shikanji, as it is often called in the North of India, a fruity twist of strawberry. With mint, the beverage gets another kick of coolness. Sweet, tangy and minty, isn’t that a lovely, refreshing drink to have?

Jaljeera

Now it is thanks to my reading and coupled with an interest in Indian food, that I know jeera (cumin seeds) have a cooling effect. Also, when nausea has gripped you, popping a herbal digestive pill is quite helpful. Why? One of the ingredients is jeera. Oh yes and when there is acidity, a fizzy Jaljeera brings considerable relief. One ingredient, so many uses! This is indeed amazing.

I am sure most of you would like to add minor tasty twists to your familiar drinks, and they are not so difficult to procure either. Happy healthy drinks-tending!
