Something's Fishy, But It's Delicious !

I remember very clearly what some of my non-veg loving friends said about their favourite non-veg preparation! They said they love Fish! While I was expecting it to be chicken, prawns or some red meat, I was completely surprised by their reply.

They began telling me of their most memorable or favourite fish preparations, some Indian and some western. Here are some of those popular preparations!

Fish Curry

Think fish curry, and one thinks of picturesque coastal locations. What if this is Kerala, God’s Own Country? From among its many other dishes, the Kerala Fish Curry always features among favourites of fish lovers. If it’s a Surmai (King Fish) preparation, then it's a total celebration. This Kerala Fish Curry uses surmai and is simmered in fresh spicy coconut paste with tangy tamarind to add to the special Kerala flavours. Add to this, the creaminess of coconut milk and a fabulous fish curry is ready to serve with steamed rice or Malabar Parotta.

Tandoori Salmon Recipe

A friend had this Tandoori Salmon at one new upmarket place. A very Continental preparation that has fish marinated in pepper and olive oil which is then grilled and served in a fine, creamy, herby sauce. The sauce is made fresh too using fish stock, onions, cream and tarragon (a herb). I too came across a simple and wonderful fish recipe recently. Sharing the link for the same.

Fish Biryani Recipe

Lovers of biryani and fish will really love this Fish Biryani. For this, fish fillet are slathered with spices, condiments and herbs and over this, cooked rice is layered followed by a layering of yogurt and salt and then the same process for biryani is followed. This is a lazeez biryani that turns out yummy. I came across this interesting recipe that I am going to try for sure.

Lemon Pepper Fish

Pomfret is a particular favourite fish in parts where it is available. While fried pomfret is often preferred, my friend tried this fish preparation that has fiery pepper and tangy lemon. After the first marination of oil and salt, it is coated in a batter of maida, salt, eggs and lemon once again. This is the second marination. It is then coated in a corn flour-black pepper mixture and shallow fried. You can deep fry too. That’s it. Serve hot. Here I have a recipe, possibly close to what my friend had.

These are just some of some of the simple and some classy fish preparations. More coming!
