Shravan Special Fasting Delights

The holy month of Shravan holds immense significance for Hindus, marked by fasting, prayers, and spiritual reflection. During this period, devotees abstain from regular grains and indulge in special Vrat (fasting) recipes. Let’s explore five delightful dishes that grace the Shravan thali:

First one on the list is - Sabudana Khichadi, a beloved fasting dish, features tapioca pearls (sago) sautéed with potatoes, peanuts, and aromatic spices. This Maharashtrian delight is light, flavorful, and perfect for breakfast or lunch during Shravan. The crispy texture of roasted peanuts complements the softness of soaked sabudana, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. Serve it hot garnished with coriander and grated coconut.

Next you can have the classic French Fries or swap the regular potato fries with Sweet Potato Fries during Shravan. These golden delights made from sweet potatoes are rich in vitamins and fiber. Seasoned with a pinch of salt, these fries are a guilt-free indulgence especially while fasting. Serve them hot with a simple yogurt dip for a wholesome snack. If you are not fasting then you can top it up with loads of cheese.

Then you can give Singhare ke Aate ka Halawa, also known as Water Chestnut Flour Halwa, a try. This divine treat is made by cooking roasted water chestnut flour with ghee, sugar, and hot water until it reaches a luscious consistency. The nutty aroma and delicate sweetness of Singhare ke Aate ka Halawa makes it a must-have during fasting days. Garnish with almond slivers for an elegant touch.

Fourth recipe on the list is - Sama ke Chawal ka Dosa. Samo or Barnyard Millet is a gluten-free grain commonly used during fasting. Grind soaked sama ke chawal together with soaked sabudana and curd. Once the mixture is ready, make dosas and serve them hot with yogurt dip. This vrat-friendly dosa is easy to make, delicious and wholesome, making it worth every bite.

Finally on the list is - Falahari Kachori, a crispy and spicy snack that is a favorite during Shravan. These deep-fried dumplings are stuffed with a spiced potato mixture and made using Singhare ka Atta (water chestnut flour). Such golden-brown Falahari Kachori taste amazing as it is but when paired with a simple yogurt dip, they taste even better.

In conclusion, Shravan special Vrat recipes offer a delightful blend of flavors, nutrition, and tradition. Whether you’re fasting or simply exploring these dishes, each bite carries the essence of devotion and culinary creativity. So, embrace the spirit of Shravan and relish these soul-satisfying treats!
