Savor The Timeless Sides and Accompaniments

When it comes to enhancing a meal, side dishes and accompaniments play a crucial role in adding depth, flavor, and variety. Classic sides like chutney, pickle and kadhi not only complement the main course but also bring their unique taste and nutritional benefits to the table. Sometimes however we tend to forget that there is a lot more variety than just the usual pickles and chutney. So today, let's delve into some unique accompaniments and explore what makes them so special.

First on the list is winter special Amla Murabba, a traditional Indian preserve made from Indian gooseberries (amla) and sugar. Known for its tangy-sweet flavor, this side dish is not only delicious but also packed with health benefits. Amla is rich in vitamin C, antioxidants, and other essential nutrients that boost immunity and improve digestion. Amla Murabba can be enjoyed on its own or as a side with parathas and rotis. It is a perfect blend of taste and health, making it a cherished addition to any meal.

Moving on we have Cranberry Chutney or pickle which is a delightful fusion of sweet, tart, and spicy flavors, making it a versatile side dish that pairs well with a variety of dishes. Cranberry Chutney is particularly popular during the holiday season, where it complements roasted meats and festive spreads. Its vibrant color and zesty taste make it a visually appealing and palate-pleasing addition to the table.

Next comes a popular Indian dish made from yogurt and gram flour (besan), seasoned with spices - Kadhi. This creamy, tangy dish is often served with steamed rice or khichdi. The preparation of Kadhi varies across regions, with each version having its unique twist. In Punjab, for instance, Kadhi is often made with pakoras (fried gram flour dumplings) added to the yogurt gravy. The key to a good Kadhi lies in the slow cooking process, which allows the flavors to meld together beautifully. Kadhi is not only comforting and delicious but also a great source of probiotics and protein, making it a wholesome side dish.

Lastly, you can try Baingan Bharta which is a smoky, flavorful dish made from roasted eggplants (baingan). This classic side dish is known for its rich, earthy taste and velvety texture. The process of making Baingan Bharta begins with roasting the eggplants over an open flame until the skin is charred and the flesh is soft. The roasted eggplants are then peeled, mashed, and cooked with a medley of spices, creating a dish that is both hearty and aromatic. Baingan Bharta is typically served with roti or naan, and its robust flavors make it a standout side dish that can elevate any meal.

In conclusion, such iconic sides bring a unique blend of flavors and textures to any meal. So, the next time you think your meal is a little boring for your palate, consider adding these delightful accompaniments to make it super fun.
