Same Old Snack Ideas With A New Look For Kids’ School Tiffin

Tiffin is almost a worrisome matter for all parents. Especially for kids, we always want them to have nutritious food every meal, but how do we convince them into eating healthy? Kids want something tasty and attractive, only then they will eat it happily. Thinking of new ideas everyday is a tiresome task. So, I curated a list of our good old Indian snack ideas that we can present in a new way to our kids in their tiffins.

Jowar Upma

Upma is a simple recipe that you can make at home with a healthy twist of millets! The wholesome goodness of sorghum (jowar) and the delightful flavors will definitely get your kids to enjoy this Jowar Upma. Serve it in the shape of a cartoon character and garnish with lemon wedge, coriander sprig as its eyes.

Ragi Dosa & Idli

Dosa and Idli is a top popular recipe that all kids enjoy. So you can try making a healthy version of the same. Ragi is very healthy for growing children, so a Ragi dosa & idli for a snack makes it better than the usual idli dosa. Ragi flour also gives it a lovely earthy colour, taste and texture which are unmatched. Besides, you can make it in different shapes to impress the kids.

Sambar

Next, you can make some deliciously healthy Sambhar to go with ragi dosa, idli, or sometimes even medu vada or simple rice too. Each family has their own style of making sambhar, but I really love adding in different vegetables like white radish, ladyfingers, pumpkin, brinjal, sambhar onion, etc., either individually or in any combination to make it tastier. This versatile recipe is easy to make and adds taste to the meal.

PARATHA

How can we forget the good old paratha? You can literally incorporate as many veggies as you wish, make it gluten-free like the ragi parantha, or just fusion like pizza paratha sometimes. Clearly, I love serving a paratha in the tiffin. My personal favourite is the masaledar rajma and paneer paratha. I make it in a triangular shape and serve it with some yogurt to add that fun element to the tiffin.

KACHORI

Some days kids just want something fried or chatpata. So on Saturdays, when it's a short day at school, I pack crispy bite-sized Moong Dal Kachoris. Trust me, you can never get enough of these, so I always make sure to pack some extra for friends at school. These kachoris are filled with a spicy mixture of split skinless green gram (moong dal) and then fried till golden brown, so they also have a long shelf life.

Making everything visually pleasing is the key to get your kids to indulge into their snack happily. Try these tricks and have happy tiffins!
