As promised, I am going to give you a final lowdown on some of the desserts we tried from our last batch. This batch has some classic Italian desserts.
Italian Hot Chocolate
Italian Hot Chocolate, or Cioccolata Calda yes, the Italians have their version too and it sure is thick, creamy and super chocolaty. It’s like having chocolate soup. One look at it, and I knew that this was going to be too much for me. Because, even though I love chocolate, it’s difficult for me to finish such a heavy, decadent dessert in one go. Mind you, the sinful Italian Hot Chocolate is for the REAL foodies, the ones who have the ‘guts’ to down a mug of a classic beverage. What makes this drink unique is the quality and the quantity of the chocolate used.
Here, I have this recipe of a traditional hot chocolate. What one can do to make it thick and luscious is to add a bit of cornstarch to get a soupy consistency.
We had ordered three as we were going to share it among ourselves. Me, being a little too greedy ended up having even that what my cuzs couldn’t drink. So, as I finished mine, I could barely lift myself up. Such was the impact.
Panna Cotta
Phew! That chocolate was gorgeous! After the heavy chocolate, it was time for something light-on-the-palate and stomach too. ‘Cooked cream’ or Panna Cotta is yet another simple dessert preparation with minimal ingredients. The menu had about a dozen or so Panna Cotta recipes on offer, ranging from berries, cherries, apricots to the seasonal watermelon, hazelnut and one even with chamomile. I was too tempted to try one of these, but I went ahead with this simple old-favourite, the strawberry Panna Cotta. It was wonderful and with the strawberry chunks in it, added a nice class element to it.
Gelato
Finally, the most popular form in the frozen desserts category, Gelato or ice cream. This frozen dessert has the unique distinction of it being smoother and denser than ice creams. The denseness of the Gelato is what makes it more flavourful. Custard, Rum Raisin, Cream and Sweet Wine, Bubblegum, Mint, Nougat Nut, and so many more, each one as tempting. I first selected the Nougat Nut but was told it is closer to Torrone. I went for Bubblegum instead.
Here, I have this recipe for Honey Nut Ice Cream that is sort of close to what I had ordered first. The recipe uses readymade ice cream. I am planning to make one with full fat milk or better, get one from a friend who makes desserts on order. Great! I am sorted.
It was fun making sweet memories over desserts with my sweet cuzs. I am sure you are looking forward to it too!
