What is Indian comfort food, you ask? It is not just a meal, a bite, or flavours, it is an emotion that has no comparison. Indian food in itself is an umbrella term that covers recipes based on very many cultures that thrive in India. This feeling does not just involve being full but it warms your heart to the extent that makes you feel nothing but comfort.
It is like a warm hug that you receive from the indescribable flavours, ingredients, and spices that each dish contains. For me, every time I eat my favourite comfort food, it takes me back to my childhood. As a child, every time I hurt myself or was upset, I wouldn't ask for pizzas and pasta but would ask for something that would provide me the comfort I simply needed.
So, are you looking for the comfort that I always felt? Here are some of my favourite recipes that I still turn to on an awful day’s end:
Palak Paneer:
Does the dish sound like it's a lot of work? Trust me when I say that this dish requires nothing more than simple ingredients and very less effort. Palak Paneer or Cottage Cheese in Spinach Puree is one of my favourite dishes and is definitely my go-to. It is prepared with two simple ingredients that are in the name- Palak and Paneer. This dish is great in itself but the one addition that I always make is fresh cream that takes the texture to a whole new level!
Khichdi
The sound of this gives me happiness! One of the simplest, most classic, and most fantastic dishes is Khichdi. Do you have leftover veggies and don’t know what to do with them? Do you have no energy to prepare a meal but are extremely hungry? Are you stuck in a situation that you want a temporary break from? The answer to all these questions is one- Khichdi. Prepared with lentils and rice, this dish is the epitome of comfort food and is something one must definitely try!
Aloo Paratha
As the name suggests, Aloo Paratha is prepared with a potato mash that is stuffed in a roti. Confused? Let me make it simpler for you (as simple as this dish). All one needs to do is boil potatoes, mash them, mix it up with your favourite Indian spices, coriander, green chilies, and onion, and stuff this in the center of a dough ball. This is then rolled out, placed on a hot pan, and cooked till it becomes crispy. The best way to serve and consume this is with a side of curd. Sounds easy and delicious, doesn't it?
So, now that you have this list of comfort foods that one must definitely try, when are you trying them?
