Flashback Into Sweet Treats For Ganeshotsav

Ganeshotsav was recently celebrated with a pomp and show. Along with it came a variety of sweet treats especially made as Prasad (offerings) specially for lord Ganesha. Just as we bid him goodbye, we are still thinking of the fun 10 days we had celebrating the festival. The typical Maharashtrian thali, Aarti, Puja, and so much fun with friends, cousins and family, we just miss it already. However, to refresh the memories, we are sharing a list of sweets that we made for each day of Ganeshotsav.

Modaks :

On the first day, we welcomed Bappa with his favourite modaks. There is a variety of modaks that are usually made during Ganeshotsav like the chocolate modak, mawa modak, Dates and Anjeer Modak, fried modak etc., but we made the traditional ukadiche modaks. This sweet Maharashtrian delicacy is traditionally made with rice flour dough shaped into a momo like modak, stuffed with a mixture of coconut and jaggery, then steamed to perfection. Serve hot with some ghee on top.

Peda :

On the second day we had some cute little peda. It is a simple process and requires a minimum amount of ingredients, but tastes absolutely delicious. Plus, it is simple to share with the devotees who come home to visit Bappa. So, we made a big box full to share the sweet love.

Kaju Katli :

Then, on the third day, we decided to make something unique yet something loved, Kaju Katli. We made the halwai style mithai by simply using just a handful of ingredients like cashewnut powder, sugar, milk, ghee and some silver varq to garnish. All the guests loved it.

Kalakand

Fourth day was when we made a beautiful creamy Indian milk cake, kalakand. This delicious sweet delicacy, made with reduced milk, gets ready without any fuss. It requires only a few ingredients but tastes very rich, creamy and delicious.

Barfi

Further on the fifth day, we made some simple nutty barfi - Pista Barfi. The fresh green colour and the rich taste won a million hearts. To be honest, the ingredients and shape are both similar to the kaju katli only that the nuts used are different, which bring in a new flavour. So, we tried the pistachio barfi and it became a hit.

Hope you enjoyed this flashback of Ganeshotsav sweet treats.
